When parenting children, there are many things that are passed on without our even noticing and makes it especially challenging. There is a good example of this, which has to do with everyone having an unique personality, with both positive and negative points.

What you face in life is an interesting mix of everything about you blended together. Now, think about the end result, when you add in your spouse, as well as any number of children. Most of us would change nothing, even though what is faced as parents, partners, and spouses is certainly difficult. Taking your own life and mixing it with another, and adding in children and experiences is what makes life a good thing.

Complications exist in a family when there is only one child, but rapidly increases as you have more children. Parents seem to pick favorites among their children, even if they don't mean to do it. Having an instant like for one child over another is not uncommon, so it will take some effort not to show favoritism.

Raising children takes awareness, and the ability to keep everything with your children in a proper perspective. To make a child feel like he or she is unwanted, is just about the worst thing that any parent could do. When you realize that you have been showing one child favoritism over others, you need to take cautious steps to repair the situation. I can tell you from personal experience that I quit sports during tryouts because I felt like I was not good enough. All of our memories are tied to an emotion of some kind, and like this event, it brings back painful feelings. It may not be easy to get your child to share with you about how they feel, but it is absolutely necessary to know how they are responding to life's events. Before starting an activity, you should talk with your child to make sure it is really what they want to do. Let them talk about their feelings and encourage them to talk to you. It is so much better to listen first and then give wisdom on what to do. It is easy to get bogged down only looking at one situation, but by looking at how it might be a blessing in disguise will help your child see there might be something different for them in their future.

Most parents realize and understand the value of consistency when it comes to enforcing the rules and operating policies in the home. In two parent households quite often one parent has a lot more resolve than the other. The parent who gives in will be singled out by the children, who can be masters at manipulation at home. When it comes to the regulations, and the discipline, the parents must be on the same page. Giving in will only cause future problems, so parents need to get the rules and discipline right, where they won't have to give-in.

Children grow up to be parents, so parents need to teach their children to be the best parents they can be. People do what they like unless they have been forced into something else, and children are no different. Success is called having a passion, and having an ability in that passion, and having parents that will support that passion.
