Any aching joints will feel relief as the heat will extend to the bones and joints. The steam from a sauna will help relieve nasal congestion by unclogging the nasal passages allowing one to breathe better. Regular use of a sauna also helps boosts one’s immune system making it easier to fight off colds and the flu. Saunas are also a great way to improves one skin as perspiration cleans out the pores

Regular sauna sitting can help improve one’s health; however it is important to make sure it is the right setting for you. For instance, people with respiratory or heart problems should talk to their doctor before using a sauna as they are usually advised not to use one. As well, people with low blood pressure should not use a sauna.

Many experts advise men who are trying to conceive a child with their spouse not use a sauna as the high temperature can negatively affect the sperm. Pregnant women are advised not to use a sauna as the excess heat can negatively affect the fetus. Children should only sit in a sauna for a short time and sit on the lowest bench. If you are taking medication that inhibits your ability to sweat, it can be dangerous to sit in a sauna. The same is true if you have a fever.

When using a sauna, the key to ensuring safety is to use it properly. Do not make it too hot and do not stay in the sauna for more than an hour. If you feel faint, dizzy, or exhausted, you should exit the sauna. Never fall asleep in a sauna. As well, make sure you have lots of water available so you do not dehydrate. The use of saunas has been steadily increasing to include all ages and various types of people. If you are unsure if you should use a sauna because of a specific condition, you should consult with your doctor.
