Srinagar is located in Kashmir Valley. It is the capital of Jammy and Kashmir. Though it is not the largest city in India, it is still one of the biggest. Srinagaris not only popular among tourists for its dry fruits and handicrafts, it is also adored for its lakes and houseboats. It is for this reason that it is also regard as Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital. For a relaxing stay, you will find a wide range of cheap to luxury Srinagar hotels to choose from.

Since year 2003, tourists have been notified that the city is already safe for traveling. Thus, you will even see the city line up with armed soldiers. Most of the accommodations you will first notice would be Western style vacation homes but they are actually empty now. Either these homes have been squatted or they were seized for military use.

The peak season for tourists in Srinagar is during the summer months where temperature levels are cool or pleasant. There are also occasional cool nights at this time so it's best to bring a sweater. During the winter, you may need your full winter gear.

Srinagar Attractions

There are lots to see in Srinagar. Found below are some of them:

. Mughal Gardens - These gardens include Nishat, Chesmashahi and Shalimar which are the concept of paradise for the Mughal emperors. These gardens are very popular as picnic and excursion venues.
. Hazratbal Mosque - It is a breathtaking white mosque. Women are only allowed to enter the first part of this mosque. Opposite this mosque is a market area filled with fresh foods.
. Shankaracharya Mandir - It is a Hindu temple that was dedicated to Lord Shiva. You can reach this temple either by taxi or car. They don't allow cellphones and cameras inside the temple.
Srinagar Hotels

As mentioned earlier, Srinagar is most famous for its houseboats. However, these houseboats don't just float around the lake for free; they are also anchored off-shore. Each of these houseboats features two to five bedrooms with baths, living rooms, dining rooms and even an upper deck. You will find most houseboats on Nagin Lake or Dal Lake. They cost around Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 but this may also depend on the time of year you book one. Also, those un Nagin Lake is more expensie as the area is more serene. It is best to book them when you see them.

Aside from houseboats, there are hotels you can choose from such as:

. Blooming Dale - It is located close to Dal Lake. Though it is just a small place, it features a lush green lawn and that typical Kashmir hospitality.
. Hotel Ishfan - This is a mid-range hotel that features double rooms that start at Rs 2,500. Thus, during the off-season, rooms can be as low as Rs 400. They have an in-house restaurant serving North Indian cuisine and chicken delicacies.
. Swiss Hotel Kashmir - This hotel is very near Dal Lake. It is commission free. It is also close to the Shankrachraya Temple.
