If you are planning to put your ads in a Usenet forum, there are things that you must consider. Remember that you cannot post your ads in graphics since Usenet is plainly text based only. Most importantly be sure to put your advertisement on the right forum where it belongs or else you'll get resentment and resistance from those who are on the forum.
There are also certain things that you can and cannot do once you have finally decided to push through on posting your ads on Usenet forums.
One of them is that you must not post the same ad more than once; since most of the Usenet newsgroup has regular readers once they realize that you've been posting your ads for several times you'll just annoy all of them.
Remember that if you have something new to post, all you have to do is write a new ad and post it right away. Again, never ever post the same ad week after week, or else you'll be banned from the forum.
Another thing that you should not do is Spamming. What is spamming? It is an indiscriminate posting of the same kind of message over and over again to multiple newsgroups. This will indeed get the readers annoyed most importantly it waste's people's time and eats up the resources of network that are already struggling to keep up with Usenet's ever growing message volume.
Whether you believe it or not spamming is not even effective, often your ads will be blocked by software designed to filter out spam. There may be some instances that your message will be cancelled or even get deleted by the network administrators which are trying to stop the waste of its resources.
Considering that all you can do is post your ads using text, there is one thing that you need to condition yourself. Never expect miracles. Whether you like it or not what Usenet can do is usually very little and can only play a very small supporting role in your overall business plans. If you have a site that you are maintaining what is can do is generate certain amount of traffic into it.
If you are selling your products on eBay or Amazon.com Usenet may be able to rustle up an extra clients for you which could be all you really need in getting a better closing price.
To sum it all up, you need to keep your expectations on it minimum level, your messages short and direct to the point. Most importantly learn to respect the Usenet community because in this way you'll get their respect as well as earn their trust in you.
