Pet owners that embark in the task of training their dog, hardly come across something new. Every trick in the book being used today is probably a remake of an old technique already used in the past by our ancestors. People that lack the experience in dog training tend to believe in secrets of the trade, which professionals use to train dogs faster. However, what most people really don’t want to believe is the amount of hard work and attention that this job requires. Although some items are available at the store, which aim to help make your job easier, they are not meant for cutting corners or sloppy quickies.

Just like in a Tarzan movie, some people seem to have a gift, which allows them to say something to the dog and they would obey. However, if they where to try it again in five minutes, it wouldn’t work as well as it did the first time. Having a way with animals may work for the first couple of times, however, a dog that is not trained will soon lose interest and look the other way. When people seem to “a way” with dogs, it is not due to chance, but to handling experience, using adequate moves and pitch in their voice. This way of treating dogs may not work every time, but it may provide to be useful when actually training the animal.

A well kept dog training secret is the pitch in your voice. When asking your dog to do something, you need to transmit a tone of voice that says you’re in charge, and yet not angry at the same time. You need to find a way to express authority in a caring and loving manner. Dogs that are reprimanded all the time become less sensitive. They will come to ignore you more and more since they are being treated the same no matter what they do. Mistreating your dog will also deteriorate your relationship with him in the end.

Showing appreciation and love is also a secret of the trade. Your pet needs to know when they have done well, by means of praise and rewards. At the other end, don’t be too hard on your dog when he does something bad, as he is unlikely to know why you are punishing him. However, being alert to your dogs actions and showing him praise and recognition for a job well done works a lot better. If every time your dog does what he’s told, he is rewarded, he will come to associate his behavior with praise, and look forward to doing it again.

The best secret of the trade is really no secret. You need to have patience and dedication in order to succeed in dog training. The best times to approach your dog with training techniques are the first two years of his life. At this time he is most receptive to behavior adjustments. Try making the training experience an enjoyable one, there is no reason why dog training can’t be fun and games.
