There is good reason for our government to come up with the program called "Solid Waste Management". One of its agenda is to make sure that we are protected both for the sake of our health and also for sake of the environment. With the cooperation of every common people, businessmen, industry owner and government official, this will surely have a good outcome and effect.
As the study was conducted a few years ago, America has made an almost 200 million tons of waste. Imagine how large that pile of garbage is, especially if it is being piled in one place only? Many landfills in America have been filled up fast by this huge piles of waste coming from different areas. Local government officials are already thinking of better ways and means on how to have a better alternative, particularly on how to slow down the volume of daily garbage. This is especially if the waste are not regularly collected.
This is one of the reasons why the solid waste management continuously monitors and implements strict policies to prevent illegal dumping. This is because it is a great factor for long-term environmental problems. The management are encouraging every community in every state to do the recycling method on waste materials rather than to dispose of them. Preventing the pile up of too much waste will lessen pollution problems and even the possibility of increasing toxins due to the garbage's sap on the soil.
There is a program called WasteWise that helps businessmen, government agencies, schools, hospitals and non-government offices to save money by giving case studies and library information about waste prevention actions. These people coming from different sectors have agreed to do waste prevention skills, recycling collection works and even buying of recycled products. Wastes like paper, plastics, broken plastic bags, bowl, cups plates and others are transformed into a new product by recycling and then they are sold on the market as well as online . There is also a system made by local government. They are called Pay-As-You-Throw. The government encourages every household to collect garbage and they will be paid according to the amount of waste they have collected. They are being paid not by money but through the reduction to their taxes and water bills. This system doesn't only help the government but also the government in order for the community to have an extra income as well as an awareness for supporting certain government programs.
If in case there is no program yet like this, it is being implemented by your local government. with this program, you can dispose of your garbage properly by burying them into the ground, particularly all biodegradable wastes like left-over foods, fruits and vegetables peels. Just allow them to decompose and then later on, you can use them as fertilizer for your plants. Another way to help the government and the community to reduce solid wastes is by segregating collected garbage. You're not only patronizing the system but also allowing yourself to learn how to identify biodegradable from non-biodegradable materials. If your garbage is not properly disposed, it can create pollution that can destroy our environment. It may even affect our health too.
