Link building is one of the major tasks performed by the webmaster as back links helps a lot in improving the position/rank of your web site. There are basically two types of back links.

These are:-
• Do Follow
• No follow

First describing the "No Follow" links, this is basically the hyperlink value, added to the tag to amplify the controlling property of the hyperlink/anchor tag.

When we use "no follow" value in the tag, it becomes the link which tells the search engine not to pass on any credibility or influence to an outbound link. You are able to add more HTML to the code above, in order to tell the search engine spiders whether or not you want them to follow the link when crawling your website.
When we don't put "no follow" value, in the tag above; it automatically converts into "Do follow" link so there is no need to put an extra value to make your link "do follow"." Do follow" links are the ones which allow the search engine to follow the link from one page to other page. Means a do follow link will make Google robot to follow the link and index the page and no follow link will restrict your page from being linked.
When you use discrete methods as custom application development companies do in order to build links on other sites (to increase your rankings), you need to know, if the websites you are attempting to get your site listed on use the "no follow" tag or not. If they do, it may still be a good idea to try to get that link there, but it is generally regarded as not the best use of time since the search engines don't follow that link and you don't get any increase in search engine rankings from that link.
Well, according to me, Do follow back links are more important but, no follow links must not be underestimated. Back links are not only for Google PR they also are very useful to grab referral traffic.
For example, no follow back link from high traffic forum and blog comments might not be much useful to help you improve your PR, but may be very profitable for outsourcing software development companies to get high quality referral traffic. So it's upon you, what kind of back links do you want to build, both have their own importance.
Otherwise, NoFollow Isn't Bad, there's nothing wrong with getting No Follow links. In fact, you'll want to get an equal amount of them as well. While they don't pass on link juice, they do help associate your site with anchor text (the keyword that makes up the URL pointing to your site). It also increase the exposure of your site, overall, which may eventually lead to you getting more mentions via Do Follow link.
That means you can control the behavior of search engine by these links and can help yourself in getting the quality traffic and desired fame by properly using theses links.
