There is no doubt of the importance of having satisfactory knowledge of hockey safety tips if you play this rough sport because it is vital that you are able to prevent any severe injuries from occurring. Many of us are well aware of the kinds of injuries that can be sustained in hockey. This sport is quite fast and exciting but also filled with danger. Most people have either heard about what terrible injuries can take place or have seen them with their own eyes.

When you think about it, these serious injuries can happen in the blink of an eye. Most of the time there is nothing a player can do once everything is in motion and committed to happening. The hockey safety tips you will find in this article are meant to keep you safe when you play the game.

Neck protectors are available although there are not required in some leagues. However, a good neck protector is an important piece of safety gear for several reasons. Hockey is a fast game where a lot can happen in the blink of an eye. There is a lot of close contact involving moving sticks and flying pucks. It's no major feat for a neck to be slashed in the process. There is the additional danger of fast moving skaters while some players may be down on the ice. This is when the blades of skates can be a huge risk. It's important to only use hockey gear and equipment that has been properly certified by recognized organizations. Keep in mind that quality protective gear is of vital importance in every sport. Defective equipment leads to injuries, that's the bottom line. You can get off to a great start by finding equipment that has been certified by the Hockey Equipment Certification Council, HECC for short. Then there is the American Society for Testing and Materials, or the ASTM. The Canadians Standards Association or CSA often certified Canadian gear. You want to see names like these on every piece of equipment you buy for hockey.

All levels below professional hockey require face masks as a safety precaution. These are worn as permanent attachments to the hockey helmets. But when you're playing with your friends out on the ice somewhere, you should still wear a helmet with a face mask. Obviously the face mask protects the facial area from injury due to flying stick blades and hockey pucks. There are a few players who complain that the face masks work to impair their range of vision and impair their ability to perform. However, they are required in the junior leagues and certainly leagues for younger kids. Serious injuries can be prevented by knowing as much as possible about hockey safety tips.
