What is a flank steak? For those who are unaware of what a flank steak is, it is also known as a bavette. It is a beef steak cut from the abdominal muscles of the cow. It is often described as a relatively long and flat cut of meat. One of the characteristics of flank meat is that it is often tougher than other beef cuts. Also, it is best when it has a bright red color because it comes from a strong well-exercised part of the cow. Flank meat is often used in Asian and Mexican cuisines
There are several ways how to cook flank meat. The most popular way of cooking flank meat is through braising or cooking with moist heat. Since this part of the meat is tougher than other meat parts, this is the most widely used method of cooking it. This is usually done with an oven and is started by marinating the meat. The meat is kept in a pan on a stovetop until it softens. When the meat appears caramelized, that is when the searing is done.

Another method of cooking flank meat is through broiling. In broiling, the meat is placed in a broiling pan 3 inches from the heat. The meat is broiled for around 7-9 minutes per side depending on how well you want the meat to be cooked. The meat should never be overcooked to avoid it turning hard.

Next is grilling. If you want the flank steak grilled, make sure it is marinated. Just set the steak over the heat source and set the grill to medium heat without covering it for 21 minutes.

Lastly, flank steak can be baked and stuffed. If the steak will be baked and stuffed, make sure to spread the stuffing on the meat. Roll the meat up and fasten it with a cotton string every couple of inches.

Those are the most common methods of cooking flank steak. Now let me give mention some dishes that are delectable and delicious.

1. Hot flank steak salad with Chinese black bean dressing - This is a lively colourful dish. The steak is grilled for at least 30 minutes. Salted and fermented black beans are used which can be found in Asian markets.

4. Bloody Mary Flank Steak with Grilled Onions - The classic accompaniments to a good steak are combined for the marinade. These are Worcestershire, horseradish, tomatoes and onions.

5. Flank Steak Braciole - This is usually stuffed with meat and dish and is considered a traditional Italian braised beef dish. This can be stuffed with winter greens.

6. Stuffed Rolled Flank Steak - This is a very tasty side dish. It is served hot with buttered noodles sprinkled with chopped parsley or penne pasta with marinara sauce.

7. South American Flank Steak - This is a spicy steak with a refreshing hint of orange.

8. Northwest Grilled Flank Steak - This steak is marinated with soy sauce, garlic, sesame, and ginger. It is good with green salad and a side of grilled vegetables.

9. Garlic Flank Steak - This steak uses garlic in marinating.

10. Flank Steak with Warm Moroccan Spices
