Are you one of those people, who perennially forget things? Do you frequently get the slack for forgetting birthdays and anniversaries? Well these are trivial examples, but having to think real hard to recall even the smallest thing can be a bit of a nuisance. However, here is the good news. The brain can actually be trained to boost your recall value!

Move your eyes around

Yes, you read that right. Eyes are known to be the window to your soul, but most importantly they can be a memory booster. Moving your eyes really quickly from side to side can help in improving your recall value by 30 . This movement activates the neutral pathways between the two sides of your brain and helps them communicate better. This is very important for retrieving memories.

Meditate

Meditating, as we all know, has lots of benefits. But what is really interesting to note is that meditation also helps in improving your memory. Research shows that people, who meditate at least twelve minutes a day, have more blood flowing into a region linked to episodic memory in the brain known as the posterior cingulated gyrus. This promotes the ability to recall personal events. So maybe, its time you start on the meditation. To begin, find a quiet corner in your house and set up a timer for 12 minutes. Keep your back straight and sit cross legged. Shut your eyes and slowly inhale and exhale. Do this until the timer goes off. Try to blank out all thoughts that might wander into your mind at this point. Instead, focus on your breathing.

Load up on the green food

It is good to eat vegetables and leafy plants. It is definitely beneficial for your brain. Studies have shown that people who eat vegetables daily scored better on neurological tests than people whose diet did not include a daily intake of veggies. In fact, vegetables that are high on cartenoids help in warding off oxidative damages to the brain. This lowers the level of age related memory decline.

No need to feel guilty about the coffee

Good new for all caffeine addicts, you don’t need to put that coffee cup away. People who have at least three cups of coffee per day are less likely to be riddled with memory loss in their old age. Intake of caffeine improves focus and attention because it is a good stimulant. As a result, you will be better at storing information as memories.

Socialize!

People who interact more with other people have a slower rate of memory decline. The more you mix with other people, more are the mental challenges. This is because interacting with other people requires reasoning and communication skills, which helps in protecting the brain against gradual cognitive decline. Interaction with people across a wide sphere also makes a person smarter. This is reason itself, for you to switch off the computer now and head outside. So go join a club, make new friends or have a random get together.
