Do You actually Have to have the PopUps?

You need to look a little something up so you type your topic into Google. You select one of the websites chosen for you by Google and click its link. Then you get an ill-fated surprise once the page loads. Instead of seeing the page that is supposed to have the content you need, you are forced to deal with a pop up. The pop up is an annoying advertisement and no matter how many times you try to close it, it won't go away--unless you give it your e-mail address. Eventually you simply close down your browser completely because you get so agitated. That web page owner's techniques haven't gotten the best of you!

So many people really really hate pop ups and they have a good reason to feel that way. They're aggravating. They intrude on what you are trying to do. When they play songs or other noises automatically they get you in trouble at your workplace or with the people in your family who are also in the room. They make outlandish claims. If you would like to close them you will have to give up your personal information. Sometimes they will set up cookies or other malware on your hard disk. There aren't a whole lot of people who actually like to be confronted by these annoying things but so many IMers insist on making use of them. Why is this?

The unfortunate and simple truth is that Internet Marketers use pop up banner ads because they work. They command focus. They help marketers create e-mail marketing directories. It has been verified many times that you will not necessarily get as great a result with a voluntary opt-in box on your sidebar or even into the primary content of your site as you do with a pop up. They occasionally even bring about direct sales. Unfortunately, these stupid web pests really get the job done and, until another person thinks of something better, most IMers are going to keep using them.

Obviously, however that does not imply that the Internet Marketers should continue using them. What kind of benefit can there be to an e-mail address that is solely given under duress? Most of the time that particular person will decide to opt out of your list once they get their first e-mail. How beneficial can your traffic actually be if nearly all of your visitors click out because they are offended by the pop up? Of course you want to make money but really--is this the only method to do it? Couldn't there be another alternative available to those who want to build an e-mail list and sell things?

The simple fact is actually this: if you have a good product or service, you aren't going to need a pop up if you can present that product well. Work hard at setting up a good product or service so that you won't have to deal with the annoying pop ups to do your job for you. Create a persuasive sales page or splash page. Catch the reader's attention and then refuse to give it back with the energy of your subject material and copy. The simple truth is that Internet Marketers only find success and online revenue when they make products that others are going to find valuable. No pop-up ad will ever be able to replace the true value of a product.
