At some point your child is likely to want to start getting gifts for their friends. This can be an expensive thing to do if you aren t careful. Thankfully, there are lots of great options you can help your child do without spending a fortune.

Prepare.

The first thing you need to do is plan ahead. Set a limit on how many kids that your child can give gifts to. This will make it so that they will need to pick a smaller number rather than having them give out gifts to all 50 of the kids that they know. You can also help them select a budget—this can be a great learning opportunity for older children.

Visit the Dollar Store.

There are a number of dollar stores all over the nation. Every item costs a dollar, eliminating the need to worry about price. Even young children will enjoy picking out simple gifts for their friends, and at a buck a piece, they won’t break your budget.

Handmade Jewelry.

The next option is to help your children make jewelry. This can be done in several ways. You can have them make pendants from modeling material and then string them on ribbon, leather cord, or string. Another option is to make friendship bracelets from embroidery floss. You can also use leather or hemp to make bracelets and necklaces that will work well for both girls and boys.

Home Made Goodies.

You can also have your child help make home made goodies. Then they can wrap up a few and give out small baggies of the goodies to all of their friends. Some great options include cookies, fudge, chocolate dipped pretzels, and other yummy Christmas fare.

T shirts.

You can usually pick up inexpensive t shirts at a big box or craft store. Get a kit for fabric painting and have your child create a special shirt for each of their friends. You can also purchase a ty dy kit—most kits will dye up to 12 shirts. Make sure your t shirt dries thoroughly before your child gives it out.

Christmas ornaments.

You can either purchase a kit from the craft store, embellish pre made ornaments, or make ornaments yourselves from some basic craft supplies.

Rock Pets.

Help your children gather up some rocks. Then wash them. After they dry let your kids paint them with non toxic paints. They can then give them out as gifts to the other children. This will be a pet that doesn t need a lot of care and that can be fun to play with.

There are a number of great options for your child to give their friends for Christmas without breaking the bank. Try to think of low cost items that can be purchased in bulk, or items that they can make (or help make). A big part of Christmas is in the giving, so allowing your children to be generous and do their own shopping will add to the fun of the holiday season.
