Benjamin Franklin was born in 1706 on January 17th. He was a Founding Father of the United States of America and was a noted polymath who was also an author, printer, politician, political theorist, postmaster, inventor, satirist, statesman, as well as a diplomat, activist, scientist and a civic. Franklin started his career at an early age and pushed himself to strive in what he believed in.

Benjamin Franklin was one of the people in the early years to define American ideals based on hard work, community spirit and self governing institutions. Franklin was a major figure when it came to the American Enlightenment and was also famous for his theories and discoveries regarding electricity. He was also the first person to invent eye glasses with two different optical patterns. Over the years this man was also the person who created the first fire department situated in Pennsylvania as well as the first public library that lends books out. Franklin even had a stove that was named after him, a famous lightning rod, as well as a carriage odometer and the glass harmonica.

Franklin was a newspaper publisher and later joined forces with William Goddard and Joseph Galloway who then published the Pennsylvania chronicle. He also had a major role in establishing and opening the University of Pennsylvania, as well as being elected the American Philosophical Society president.

There are many different objects and items that have been named in memory of Franklin such as coinage, stamps, towns, community groups, plus many more items. His work still continues on today with many people also striving for what is right in the world. Franklin died on the 17th of April in 1790 at the old grand age of 84 years old. It was said that 20,000 people attended his funeral to pay respects to his life and the work that he had accomplished.
