Panic attacks can be extremely scary and life-altering experiences, given this there are often a lot of questions asked about them. In this posting we'll discuss the top 5.

First, precisely what is a panic attack? A panic attack is a physical manifestation of extreme mental unrest. By picturing and thinking about an event you fear the mind will respond as if it has already happened. Something bad that did happen but is blown out of proportion can also lead to the same problems The body can't handle those levels of stress and basically locks up. Indicators consist of trouble breathing and chest pain, excessive sweating, racing heart, clammy palms, tingling, dizziness or lightheadedness, and fear of imminent doom. You may not experience all of these. A few are secondary symptoms. What I mean by this is that breathing problems, for example, can lead to dizziness or lightheadedness.

Next, just what exactly causes anxiety attacks? Most are surprised to learn that there is rarely a physical problem that leads to these attacks. By focusing on something worrisome, your body tenses. Focusing on such things regularly and intensely enough can lead to panic attacks. Even if you aren't consciously aware of a fear, it can contribute to you having a panic attack.

Third, what exactly should you do throughout the panic attacks? Be aware of patterns that lead to panic attacks, and if you recognize you're about to have one, you have the ability to stop it early on. This is because there is a pattern to your thoughts that once interrupted will die down. When trying to interrupt the pattern, attempt to do something outrageous or something that you'd never do during this time. You can laugh, make crazy noises or gestures, or find a way to embarrass yourself to stop it. Laughter is my favorite, but it often requires help, so keep access to funny comedians on your mp3 player or phone. Have fun making up your own. Choose your favorites and use them or mix them. You may not like some options, but try them anyway. You can't be both fearful and embarrassed at the same time. But if you don't catch it early enough, realize that no matter how bad it feels, you'll be fine and it will be over soon.

Fourth, what can you do to prevent panic attacks? Panic attack prevention is a mixture of physical and mental readiness. You can reduce stress by eating correctly, exercising regularly, and sleeping plenty. Some substances such as caffeine and alcohol can actually trigger attacks. These are all meant to reduce stress and increase self control. These are important factors though. Using these approaches will give you more discipline and a better outlook as your health improves. Both of these will serve to fight the underlying problem, being your fears. When your main fears that you have to battle with regularly are eliminated, your panic attacks will be as well.

Fifth, what's your fastest treatment option? This would depend on the person. Some can overcome fear quickly, and that is a permanent solution. For others it will take much longer. Pills are almost instant, but they should never be used as a complete solution. They are not a cure, they merely cover up the problems. Sometimes you can have a panic attack even on the medication, though far less common. If you don't deal with the underlying problem you will always have to be on the pills. This is a problem both for your wallet and your wellbeing. You'll feel so much better knowing you can walk around and be just fine without any additional aid.
