Adding inches to your vertical is no easy task but it can certainly be done. Many athletes who want to jump higher, wish to accomplish their goal but simply have no clue what are the steps necessary for you to do to jump higher. Here in this article, I will guide you on what you need to do to increase your vertical and show you some exercises that you can utilize that will help you improve your sports performance.

Vertical Jump

Since this article is about helping you to jump higher, then I will explain to you what is the vertical jump. The vertical jump is basically how high you can jump. The jump reach minus the standing reach can be defined as the vertical jump. Many athletes claim to have a high vertical jump like 35 inches, this can be true if you are a professional athlete, however, people become confused when someone mentions what they're vertical jump is.

Lunges help to make you jump higher

Like many other weight training exercises like the squat and the deadlift which test brute strength, lunges is an exception. Lunges will greatly help you to jump higher when you perform them correctly. It is always important that you use proper form in all the exercises that you do. Lunges target the muscles such as the hamstrings. It is also noted, that when you have strong muscles then you also reduce the risk of getting injury. For many athletes, getting an injury such as a sprained ankle is a devastating blow. Remember that when you do weight training, you are not just getting more powerful but you are also making yourself less injury prone. Lunges help you jump higher, because it allows you to transfer more energy through the hamstrings, this is called kinetic linking.

Boxed Jump

The boxed jump is a form of plyometric exercise and will also help you jump higher. It is important to note when ever someone does a plyometric exercise, they should be able to squat more than 1.5 times their own body weight. This is because plyometrics place a heavy load of stress on the joints. But plyometrics is very beneficial if you want to jump higher because it will make you more explosive. To do the box jump, you will need a box and that will be the box that you need to jump on. Make sure that it is leveled and will not cause you to lose your balance. The box should be around 1 to 2 feet for starters. Warm-up, then stand straight in front of the box platform and jump onto the platform. Use your whole body to propel yourself to the box.
