Please and thank you are two of the most powerful words ever created. If you understand their true power there is nothing in the world that can't be accomplished. Look around at the present lack of basic communication skills and you will see how this power that once was, so prevalent has gone untapped by many these days.

You may not have seen manners as being powerful. The fact is that manners have a much greater impact than you might know. The positive power in manners can take you far in life, and help your potential turn into wonderful accomplishments.

If you think of the message you give when you show good manners, this is quite easy to understand. When you are sincere with the use of words like "please" and "thank you," you are showing respect for yourself and respect for the person to whom you are speaking. This mutual respect in turn shows you as a person of good character.

Second, manners present you as a person who knows that quality interaction with others is important. Good manners show that you are not only thinking about yourself-- you care what the other person thinks and feels. It is the most excellent way to improve your communications with other people, whether they are in your everyday life or people whom you have just met.

When you demonstrate manners on a regular basis, it is also a sign that you know what is right and proper. It will make your parents proud that you have learned this, and will make your friends glad to be your friends. In today's world, where many people focus on hurrying to get ahead, your good manners will let everyone know that you have taken a few minutes to be considerate.

When you say "please," "thank you," and "excuse me" at the right moments, it only takes a couple of minutes. When you have created the habit of showing good manners in every situation, it will be like second-nature to you. You will be glad that you have taken this small, extra step when you see how well-received your manners are to the people in your everyday life.

While money and other things may help you to get to the door of your dreams, it is the basic consideration of using good manners on a regular basis that will help you to reach your highest potential. You can accomplish more than you ever dreamed possible.
