The major health concern with artificial sweeteners is that they have been associated with cancer. In some studies, sugar substitutes have been shown to cause cancer in lab animals. Also the use of such sweeteners has additionally been shown to cause weight gain. This is a crucial point to note since so many folk use substitutes as a way to avoid the empty calories of sugar and to help in weight loss.

The best choice when looking for a natural sweetener is honey as it is one hundred percent natural and can be found in its natural state. It is a good substitute for sugar and can be used in its natural liquid form or in crystals like with honey crystals.

Another benefit of honey is that it tastes very good with no after taste or nasty smell. Unlike some artificial sweeteners, that leaves an after taste in your mouth and can't really be used for baking most items.

Finally, when looking for a sugar substitute you have to be careful and avoid most artificial sweeteners as they are essentially chemicals with potential negative side effects. Instead consider replacing sugar from your diet with honey a natural sweetener that we know is safe and healthy.
