Besides the four C's (they determine the value and looks of the diamond) and the s for shape, is the setting also a factor to rely on when it comes to a diamond ring. The setting is the part where the stone is set in. So basically it's nothing more than a socket for the stone, placed on the ring. The setting holds the diamond, and a classic setting used very often is the so-called Classic Four Claw setting. Of course, the amount of four can be replaced by thee or two or what not. It all comes down to the diamond that's in it. Because, some cuts and shapes are not suitable for certain settings.
Different shapes of diamonds
- Asscher: this shape is a combination of the Emerald (which has one big facet of top) and the Princess. It looks like a square, but it isn't. Same goes for round or oval, it's looks like it but it both just doesn't apply.
- Marquise: Looks round and oval, a combination of the both.
- Emerald: Sort of like a square with stairs like big flat facet.
- Radiant: Looks a bit like the Emerald, but the corners of the stone are different.
- Cushion: A pillow like diamond with round corners and big facets.
- Pear: The pear shaped, tear like diamond makes a finger looks thinner and longer.
- Oval: The oval shape (like the Pear and Marquise) makes a finger look long and thin. Has a round touch to it.
