We all know that dogs are happiest when they have a yard or garden to run around. If your garden isn't secure then the dog ends up spending most of its time indoors. I personally used to have a puppy and it went to the toilet in the porch for months, it also ate my favourite shoes too. There are some good options for pet owners like the invisible dog fence which can create a safe area for the dog or other pets to play outdoors.
There are some great solutions now for pet owners needing security and containment for their animals. An invisible dog fence is just that, thin wires are used to cordon off the area which run just under ground level. The dog wears a special collar when outdoors which has a transmitter inside. When the animal gets too close to the electric dog fence, they hear an alert. When they touch the fence they get a mild electric shock. They are not dangerous to pets, they are a deterrent and extremely effective.
A wireless dog fence like this is the perfect way to keep a pet within a boundary. Pets and especially dogs are fast learners, once they have felt the shock a few times, they will associate it with the alert. Very quickly they will learn to back up once they hear the alert. After another short period of time they will naturally recognize the boundary and keep within it.
A hidden dog fence costs much less than normal garden fencing too. Traditional dog fences are mesh ones like chicken wire, plastic mesh or chain link, these don't look very nice and always start to sag after a while. There is always the danger of the dog burrowing underground too. An invisible dog fence stops the animal getting out over ground and underground.
Well this depends on the size of your garden or yard. Expect to pay around 250 pounds or $330 dollars for a decent system with a run of around 500 feet of wire. There are cheaper options but the very basic ones are likely to break or not function properly for long. An electric dog fence is easy to fit yourself, just run the wire around the border and plug it into a power socket.
They usually come with flags to define the boundary but these are not needed after you and your pet remember where the wire is. If you want a wireless dog fence, there are also options which are powered by batteries. Most kits have extras available like collars and extra wire for more pets and larger spaces. Electric dog fence kits and wireless dog fence kits can be bought online or from some home improvement stores.
