Dogs love to travel, they love exploring new places with their owners and you won't find yourself worrying about what is happening to your dog while you're away if he's with you. With hotels becoming increasingly more accommodating to people with dogs, it's become easier to travel with your pet than ever before. There are a few simple ways to make this process easier on you and your best friend:

. Ensuring that your dog's vaccinations are in order and up to date is crucial as many hotels and facilities will require that your dog is vaccinated. Rabies vaccinations are required by law in most public facilities all over the world. Keep all your veterinary records with you on hand in case you need them for any reason.

. Your dog should be wearing his ID tags to help him find his way back home if he gets lost. Microchips serve the same purpose but ID tags allow anyone finding the dog to be able to contact you, microchips require a reader to provide the relevant information.

. When you're travelling, take some of your dog's regular food so he doesn't develop any intestinal problems from food he isn't used to. Another good reason to take your dog's food with you is that you may not find what your dog regularly eats at your travel destination.

. As with your dog's food, be careful about giving your dog water from a new destination. Unfamiliar water can also cause stomach upsets and you should take some water from home when travelling with your dog. If this isn't feasible, give your dog bottled water rather than run the risk of making him sick by offering him water you're not sure about.

. Make sure you clean up after your dog when on vacation. Irresponsible dog owners can cause hotels and other vacation facilities to reconsider their pet friendly policies. Pack some sodium bicarbonate or a water and white vinegar mix with you to clean indoor accidents or to remove any doggie scents.

. Keep your dog crated while on the road. This helps protect your dog if you're involved in an accident as many dogs are propelled through windshields in accidents. Your dog will be safer in his crate. The crate should not be too large so the dog isn't bumped around and it shouldn't be too small either, the dog should be able to sit and turn around in the crate comfortably.
