There is no doubt that Ancient Greece has played a major role in the shaping of what we now see as the modern world. The influence that it has had in so many areas from art, to literature, to architecture and more has meant that things the Greeks believed and did still influence us today.

One of the first things is that they really gave us the basis for modern day mathematics and indeed physics due to their ability to come up with formulas and theorems. They were also the first people to come up with the idea of democracy even although the Romans then really worked on expanding the concept. Some people do not realize that the way we elect people in the world today goes back that far and this is often because it largely vanishes as an idea once the Roman civilization collapses.

The Greeks also played an important role in law which in turn was again picked up by the Romans and it is accepted that the basics of our modern day laws can be linked back to these times. People do often know that they were responsible for advances in philosophy due to people such as Socrates and Plato Their work is still studied in depth by modern day philosophers. The same can be said with ancient playwrights and authors who developed the idea of literature beyond just writing records as was seen in other civilizations of the time.

So the people of Ancient Greece have managed to leave their footprint on so many aspects of modern day life even if you do have to look quite hard to see their influence. It is thanks to them that we are as advanced as we are in many areas and you do wonder where we would be if it was not for the Greek civilization.
