Have you ever seen a great public speaker? The ability to really draw an audience in and to make them hear what you say, invoke an emotional response from them and to move them is something that very few speaker master. For most people the idea of getting up in front of other people is just plain scary and may be one of their greatest fears in life. The simple fact remains that if you can talk to people and get through to them in an effective way then you have power. Are good speakers born or are they created? While some people do have a tendency to be born with a certain charisma, good speakers are those who become good at it. Anyone can become good and like any other skill its something you need to study, practice and get good at. So, how do you do it? Here are 3 easy ideas.
1. Overcome the fear
The first and perhaps the most important step is to overcome the fear. If you can master the fear of getting up in front of other people regardless of the environment then you will have taken the biggest step. The only way to overcome this fear is to confront it. In the beginning it will be tough but over time it will get easier and you will start feeling much more comfortable.
2. Study excellent speakers
By watching great speakers we can learn a lot. We can study their body language, how they make eye contact and how they engage their audience. We can look at how they hold themselves, their tone of voice and their general approach. By mimicking some of the best speakers you too can use and utilize some of their greatness.
3. Practice
The old saying that practice makes perfect holds true. The more you speak and the more you practice the better you will get. A great way to do this is to join Toastmasters. Its a fantastic organization and you will be in an environment where you can get the support and feedback you need to become a great speaker.
