Bulgur wheat is considered as one of the oldest grains to mankind and it is made from soaked as well as well as cooked whole wheat kernel. After this whole wheat kernel is cooked it should then be dried. After it has dried, a part of its bran is then removed and the remainder of the parts is then cracked into smaller pieces and this then results to bulgur wheat also referred to as bulgar wheat. Learning how to cook bulgur wheat is important in that it will be one of the dishes that will be able to enjoy with family and friends. This can be used in desserts, soups, salads as well as to make breads.

Bulgur wheat can also be used as a thickener for dishes that have meat and also in some soups at the same time it is also a great extender. It is also used in some cases as an alternative to rice and has similar nutrients to the ones in whole wheat. It can also be prepared in a similar way as the one for preparing rice where it absorbs water that is twice its volume. Bulgur wheat can either be cooked or soaked in water for it to consume it. Bulgur wheat comes in different types namely number 1, 2 ,3 and 4 and these will vary from the finest grind to the most-coarse grind where the finest grind will have a less cooking time.

You can alternatively use boiling vegetable broth instead of using boiling water. You can as well as microwave very finely ground bulgur where you should mix the same amount of bulgur and water in a microwave safe bowl and stir it thoroughly and then cover it and there after microwave it for about 2 minutes at high temperatures. There are several recipes that you can use to have a bulgur wheat dish and one of these is the Tabouli recipe.

Tabouli recipe requires you to have a number of ingredients including 1 cup dry bulgur wheat, ? cup of fresh lemon juice, 1 ? a cup of boiling water, ? teaspoon dried mint, 1 ? teaspoon salt, 1 heaping teaspoon crushed fresh garlic, fresh black pepper and a ? cup of olive oil. Additionally, 1 chopped green pepper, 1 cup fresh chopped parsley, ? cup cooked chick peas, 2 medium diced tomatoes, ? cup of coarsely grated carrot, 1 chopped cucumber as well as ? cup of chopped scallions with the green parts included. When you have all these ingredients you should then start with the preparation steps.

The first step in preparing bulgur wheat is to take a large bowl and mix the bulgur wheat with salt and boiling water. The bowl should then be covered and then wheat soak this mixture for about 20 minutes. Add the garlic, olive oil, mint and also the lemon juice. The mixture should be done thoroughly before placing it in the refrigerator for either 3 hours or even overnight. After the refrigeration the dish can now be served with black pepper and vegetables. You can as well garnish with feta cheese as well as with black olives. You can always use this preparation method as your everyday guide as one of your recipes for your family and friends as well.
