Most people do not know how to paint a car at their own time. Most people rush their vehicles into garages whenever the car has small scratch and here there will be charged high rates not knowing that they can do it themselves. Painting a car will however require you to have precision meaning it should be done adults or in cases where it is a young person doing it they should be supervised by an adult. Apart from doing a complete paint job, you may also need to paint your vehicle in order to restore damaged chrome.

The process of painting a whole vehicle may take about five to six hours and this will mainly depend on the type and model of the vehicle as there are vehicles that are bigger than others are. You will need several things in order to make this possible. Some of the things that you will need include a wire, a primer, a clear coat paint, a spray gun, a sandpaper, a masking tape, urethane based paint, body putty as well as wax or grease remover. There are several steps that should be followed carefully if you want to finish this process successfully.

The first step in painting your own car is to wash the entire car using soap and water. This is meant to remove all the dirt that the car has accumulated. The car should be washed properly as this is what will determine the type of finish you will have from the paint of the car. The next step is to remove the dirt that is non-soluble in water and this is done using the grease or wax remover. Alternatively you can also charcoal starter or mineral spirits to be able to remove the non-soluble dirt. If the car has any rough areas they should then be rubbed off using sandpaper.

The next step is to discharge all the static charge from the body of the car and this is meant to ensure that it doesn't attract any dust. This can be done by joining the chassis frame that is under your car with any grounded object using a wire. It is as this stage that you should ensure that the entire body of the vehicle is totally dry before you can start painting. The parts of the body that are not going to be painted should be taped using a masking tape. If this is done properly you will have added to the finish. You should then use the body putty to ensure that all the patches on the car's body are evened out.

You should then apply the primer on the entire surface to be painted and this should be applied as evenly as possible. You should then scrub the primer carefully with sandpaper until you have evened out the entire surface. Select an urethane based paint for color and start applying the base coat using a spray gun. You should leave the paint to dry for about 15 minutes. Then apply a second coat and leave it to dry for thirty to ninety minutes. After the color has dried you should apply clear coats.
