Data caps are now a thing of the past if you sign up to 3UKs new tariff package, The One Plan. The mobile operator is now offering its subscribers an unlimited data allowance, opening up the UK tariff market, previously littered with data hardcaps and levies on excessive use.
The company aim to allow their subscribers to use their smartphones to their full potential, and browse the internet without having to worry about the costs mounting up.
The removal of data caps is the second big change The One Plan has wrought on the UK phone market. When it was first brought in last July, the tariff plan offered a competitive deal on calling minutes, texts and a limited data allowance (capped at 1GB).
However the operator decided on a re-think after concluding that smartphone users were not making as much use of their devices' capabilities as they might have due to the data cap imposed on them, and that removing it was a necessity with the nature on online content today, which calls for increased amounts of usage and greater data allowances.
Therefore 3UK has bucked the market trend of imposing data caps and made the allowance infinite, allowing subscribers to The One Plan as much data each month as they can possibly get through. The company's Sales and Marketing Director, Marc Allera, has commented that the removal of the 1GB data limit had 'made a market-changing deal even better'. Allera also suggested that the company's network had 'the scale and scope to meet people's data needs both now and into the future', pleading that 'The One Plan will still fit your needs no matter how much data you use."
The removal of the data cap anticipates a general shift towards mobile Internet usage; 3UK think that with the innovative new tariff they have put themselves ahead of the game and will reap the benefit of that in the years to come. The operator is also capitalising on the recent extension of its 3G network, at a cost of ?400m, which has extended it to cover over 97% of the UK population.
In the last YouGov Smartphone Mobile Internet Experience report, 3UK was the best rated mobile operator, and will hope that its popularity is boosted further with the innovative additions to The One Plan.
