Baseball is a game that is almost synonymous to the word American. Although it is played in a lot of places across the globe, it is in the United States where complete appreciation of the sport can be observed. With that, it is just natural to see the best baseball teams of all time coming from the US.

Major league baseball has been around for 140 years or so, and through its lengthy existence, a number of teams came and went. Those who made a huge impact on the country, however, continue to exist in the heart of every American. Here are some of them.

1. New York Yankees (1927) - Topping the list is the Yankees team in 1927. Babe Ruth had 60 home runs while Lou Gehrig had 47. Tony Lazzeri had a batting average of . 309, Bob Meusel hit . 337 and Earl Combs had . 356 average. The Yankees outscored opponents by 400 runs and had a record of 110-44.

2. Cincinnati Reds (1975) -Another one of the best baseball teams of all time is the Cincinnati Reds of 1975. The team is referred to as the Big Red Machine with its lineup of great players including hall of famers Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez and Pete Rose. Sluggers Ken Griffey, Sr. And George Foster were also on the team. They had 108 wins and beat the Red Sox in the 1975 World Series.

3. Chicago Cubs (1906) - The Cubs had 116 wins and 36 losses in 1906. It is the best winning percentage ever. They beat the Giants by 20 games within the regular season but lost to the Chicago White Sox in the World Series.

4. St. Louis Cardinals (1934) - Led by Hall of Famers Dizzy Dean, Frankie Frisch, Joe Medwick and Ripper Collins. The Cardinals beat the Detroit Tigers in seven games and became World Series champions.

5. Brooklyn Dodgers (1955) - The Dodgers beat the Milwaukee Braves by 13 games during the regular season. This is the team who got the sole Championship for Brooklyn. It erased all the memories of the past when it took out the Bombers in a highly memorable series that went seven games.
