Windows sometimes encounters some problems that the user may be unsure what their cause is and how to diagnose them. An example of these errors will be "USB Device Not Recognized" and this will mean that your computer is not capable of recognizing a USB device that you have just plugged in your computer. When this error occurs it is possible that the USB device has not been listed in Device Manager as a known device. This error can affect any USB device including a mouse and a keyboard as well as other devices so it is important to find out more about the device before plugging it in your computer. This error is mostly brought about by several factors and they will include:
Incorrect USB driver versions
No Support for USB 2.0
Host Controller hardware malfunction
Attached hubs
Attached devices
Additional system hardware or configurations that may change the timing among other factors.
In order to make sure you get rid of this error you will have to work around these issues and find out the main cause of the error and find the solution from the following pointers:
Unsecure or lose connection - in this you will need to unplug the USB device and re plug it tightly and firmly into the USB port. And this is one of the most common reasons of this type of error.
Scan for hardware changes in Device Manager - in this you should use the Device Manager to scan for new and recently installed hardware. You go to the Start menu and select the Run option and then type Devmgmt.msc and click OK. Form the Action menu you click on Scan for hardware changes and this will make Windows scan as well as recognize any new devices that have been recently installed.
USB hub Power Management - in this technique you will need to disable the power management of the USB hub and the following steps should be followed starting with clicking on the Start button and selecting the Run option and then typing devmgmt.msc in the pop up box and then click Ok. Proceed to expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers node and then follow these same steps for all of the USB Root Hubs that are listed there. The first step to do this is right clicking on the USB Root Hub and then selecting the properties option and then click on Power Management tab. Click to clear the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" check box and then click Ok. If this procedure is done on a laptop it will reduce its battery life.
In some cases you can just unplug the USB device and restart the computer and the error will disappear. If all of the above solutions do not work you will need to check the device's manufacturer's website for more driver information. It may be a case of updating the drivers or a case of hardware failure which will need to be checked by a hardware expert.
