A wireless router is a device that performs the functions of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point this is commonly used to allow access to the internet or a computer network without the need for a cabled connection. The simplest way to explain this is a wireless router is a router that uses wireless technologies to connect computers to a network wirelessly, that is without the need for cables from the computer to the router.
A wireless router is needed if you have an internet service at home or your business, and you want to share the connection with several other computer users, then a wireless router can be used to quickly and easily connect all computers to the internet without having to pay full broadband subscription service fees for each computers. Some routers also provide an additional level of security to protect your computer from spyware.
When you want to install a wireless router here is what you do; Select the equipment to be used. Make sure the wireless router is compatible with wireless network inter phase on your system. Unplug the DSL modem from the power supply. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the back of the computer that connects to the Ethernet part of the modem. Connect the loose end of the Ethernet cable to the back of the router. Connect the DSL modem to the power source. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to one of the Ethernet parts at the back of the router. Connect the router to the power source. Install the software included on the routers package. Once it is installed open the browser and see if it is working. Activate the wireless connection in the configuration menu to enable the broadcast of wireless connection.
The advantages of wireless router are; a wireless router is equipped with modem network switch a device that has multiple connection parts for connecting computers and other network devices. It can be connected to and from anywhere in the immediate environment. You can surf from anywhere in your surrounding. Some wireless routers are equipped with a built in firewall toward of intruders. The configuration options of the firewall are an important consideration when buying a router. The broadband router wireless VoIP technology enables you to connect to the internet using any ordinary phone device. You can then make calls to anybody in the world via your internet connection.
The disadvantages are; the wireless connection is slightly slower than the wired one. There is over congestion in the cities where you have large cities where you have large population that transmits over the channel causing much interference. With wireless connection, it is easier for someone to hack into the system if you are in the same vicinity if the network is not properly configured.
The freedom that comes with using wireless routers is really worth it because you will travel to anywhere you want to go and still get the work done without the worry of missing a day at work if you do not work in the office. You can communicate with anyone if there is no phone signal and you are in remote place. With all these, it is really worth it to try it.
