There are many dangers when you climb behind the wheel of a car. For instance, you not only have to pay attention to what you are doing; but you also have to pay attention to what other drivers are doing. This includes being vigilant enough to be able to figure out what maneuvers they are going to make as well as what sorts of things they are thinking of doing.
When you throw alcohol into the mix, suddenly you ve created an even more dangerous scenario. Each year, drinking and driving causes more injury and death than anything else. Driving has enough distractions without the addition of something that will only impair your ability to react quickly and make wise decisions to avoid accidents. When you drink and drive, you are no longer able to think or see clearly. What you perceive as driving in a straight line may actually be the result of you driving all over the road. Could you imagine what would happen if you were driving seventy miles per hour down a highway next to someone else who was driving while intoxicated? How much force do you think it would take for someone to swerve into you and push your vehicle off the road – or worse yet into oncoming traffic?
Before you go out to a party, you should always make sure that you have a designated driver assigned to transport you home if you know that you are going to be consuming alcoholic beverages. Even if you only have one beer, this is more than enough to negatively affect your judgment when behind the wheel. Similarly, if you see one of your friends get behind the wheel of a car after they ve been drinking alcohol, don t just stand idly by. Instead, take it upon yourself to find them a sober ride home even if it means calling a cab. A few dollars spent is worth it in the end if it means that you ve saved someone s life.
It is not worth the risk to drink alcohol and drive a vehicle. Too often we forget to remind ourselves that driving is a privilege and not a right. That being said, we need to take care to be careful and use our full attention whenever we are driving on the roadways. Think about how dangerous it can be when you re driving and the roads are wet because it has rained. People who think that they know how to handle their cars in bad weather are often victims to their egos.
Before you drink alcohol at all, think about the possible consequences of your actions should you become intoxicated. People who are arrested for driving while intoxicated even once have to live with the fact that for the rest of their lives. It is even worse for someone who is intoxicated while driving and actually kills or seriously injures someone. Not only will they be arrested, but that will be on their criminal records when and if they try to apply for a job.
