Hedgecutters are used to trim garden hedging and they come in 3 general variations. There are human powered trimmers which are cheaper in price and economically friendly. The second type is petrol powered and is very powerful. They can be quite heavy and difficult to start up. The third type is electrically powered. This type is as powerful as the gasoline one but also lighter to handle.

These cutters are designed and manufactured with user safety in mind. They have a safety device installed where it will only power up when both hands of the person operating it is on the handles. This way no accident can occur while starting up or clearing an object out of the way while the machine is powered up.

They are made of hard and durable materials that allow continuous use for long periods of time. The blade geometry allows the user to work without too much strain and it allows for a high quality cutting. These blades can cut wood hedges as well as trimming of fine greens.

Electrical hedge trimmers are lighter in weight and can be used with more convenience. There is no need to first drive for gasoline. One simply plugs the electrical cord in and start trimming. The only downside is that the electrical cord has to go where ever one goes and that is somewhat of a hazard.

Rechargeable trimmers are battery operated and this allows one to use it without the worry of an electrical cord dangling behind. They are less powerful though. After about seven hours of charging, one can only use the machine for half an hour before the battery runs out. One can always have a second battery, but when there are rows and rows of hedges, it can become a burden.

Gasoline trimmers can be used anywhere and are very powerful machines. They are heavier, quite noisy and they blow out smoke. They are also more expensive in price as they are seen as the most powerful and durable of the machines.

The trimmers have blades that use a single action where the top blade oscillates and cutting against the bottom blades that do not move. The double action machines have two double sided blades sliding back and forth which means one can use the machine from left to right. The blades come in various sizes. The length should be considered according to the size of the hedges. A longer blade can cut a longer area of hedges in a shorter time period. The cutting blades are generally between 14 to 30 inches long.

Some machines come with additional features. These include a clippings collector which collects all the stray cuttings and ensures a neater finish. The automatic cutout feature is for safety in mind. Once the trigger is released it turns off the device immediately. This means one can never place it down on the surface while it is still on. As it is a heavy piece of equipment, children are less likely to operate it or turn it on successfully.

Other additional features include a hand guard that protects hands from the moving blades and from any hard cuttings shooting towards the hands. Double position trimmers are another feature and it allows for an extended reach when cutting higher greens. One can adjust the handles into a better angle to cut the top of the greens.

Safety is of utmost importance when using this device. One should always hold it correctly by using both hands. People and animals should be kept away from the working area while the machine is being used. It is always recommended that you wear protective clothing during operation, such as safety glasses, heavy duty gloves and footwear. Electrical equipment should never be used in wet weather conditions and the cable should be kept well away from the cutting area.

electrical hedgecutters are currently the most popular type and outsell the other variations. The fact that they are available for use at any time, economical and also environmentally friendly, makes them the most likely machine to buy. Being light and easy to handle prompts many people to purchase them as many women who are keen gardeners find them easier to use than the heavier petrol cutters.

The key to the correct decision would be the size of the hedges that will be trimmed and of course how often one will use the machines. If it is going to be used once a year, one can opt for a rechargeable machine as they are somewhat cheaper in cost. For people who will use them at least once every two to three months, an electrical device would be best suited. For very large areas and woody greens, the gasoline driven devices would be best as they are more powerful.
