In this age of computer technology and the Internet, writing letters the conventional way is a practice many have only heard of. Most people now use the internet, cellular phone, or telephone to communicate with others especially loved ones. 6. To conduct business-related communication. Whether you are a business owner or an employee in administrative positions, you will need to write various kinds of business letters such as business memorandum, letter of credit, or termination letter.
7. To communicate with friends, relatives, or acquaintances. This is the most common letter you may write. You may write a personal letter to share stories, ask how relatives are doing, to court someone, or to get to know someone better. Love letters and friendly letters are both personal letters.
8. To inquire. Whether you need more information about a product or event, or seek clarification for something that happened, you may write a letter of inquiry to concerned individuals or entities.

10. To air a complaint. When you receive unsatisfactory products or services, you can write a letter of complaint to managers or those in position. If you are a disgruntled employee or student, you can also air your concerns through a letter.
