Most family purses are strained at the moment, if they weren't already. However, additional stress is growing in the form of fines and charges for speeding offences. In many cases, these fines are not expected, and people quite often don't even remember when they committed the alleged offences.

I guess that you are like most other people right now, blissfully unaware of all the speed cameras and traps out there and probably take them for granted that you'll be caught at some point and that you are limited by your options. Note also that the amount of speeding traps and cameras are still continuing to grow, and the government earn considerable revenue from this. The only loser in this seems to be the general motorist who may, unintentionally, break the speed limit or otherwise.

To best protect you against fines on the road, you really need to know what you are up against. The most common road based camera is the gatso, that uses laser/radar to determine the speed of a vehicle. It does this by sending the signal, and timing the reflected signal to calculate the speed. Other speeding devices use fixed cables on the road, stretched across. The time taken to cross the wires determines the speed of the vehicle, which works in conjunction with a speed camera. Probably the most well known type used the photographic method between two points that uses the registration plate.

Don't worry.... Although there are a lot of devices and speeding traps out there, you can counter them by using a speed camera detector. Its an investment that will save you money, and help you.

There are two main types of speed camera detector. The first employ dynamic technology which actively monitor the roads for laser and radar signals, whereas the other method is static and references a preloaded database of known locations. However, the most effective devices use a combination of both to give you maximum results.

Fear not! Speed camera detectors ARE legal to use! Despite what people may tell you, using a speed camera detector device is legal at the time this article is being written. The reality is that when you use these devices, you are made more conscious of your surroundings and speed. Therefore, you can consider these a safety device.

Presently there are no restrictions to the use of speed camera detections, other than the ongoing lobbying that radar jamming technology should not be available to the public. There is therefore no reason why you shouldn't use such a device to be made more aware of the road and the roadside, and issues you may encounter. The investment, in reality, is a small one, other than noting that some devices have a 12monthly subscription service which is mandatory.

You will have no doubt started to realise that driving accessory technology is converging and evolving into a single device. The benefit is that you can be warned of speeding cameras and similar devices, whilst you follow a route from the navigation element of your device. This saves space, and makes the dashboard somewhat tidier.

Imagine yourself on a trip to a place youve never been. With a combo speed camera detector and navigation device all sitting atop your dashboard, you wouldnt be worried about going over the speed limit, getting lost or even having to take your eyes off the road every few seconds to check your speed. While you wouldnt rely completely on the device it would be nice to have something like that riding with you!

There is no reason why you shouldn't be on the same level playing field as your environment, and this means using a speed camera detector. They can improve your safety, and save you money. So the question is, why wouldn't you want one?
