Kanha National Park is a well visited national park because of its tigers and other attractions. The management enforces stringent conservation programs to preserve the beauty of the park.

About Kanha National Park

Kanha National Park is a Tiger Reserve and a national park located along the Balaghat and Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh, India. It houses the sloth bear leopard and Royal Bengal Tiger.

In the year 1930, the Kanha area was separated into 2 sanctuaries namely the Banjar and Hallon, of 300 and 250 square kilometers respectively. Today it stretches to more than an area of 950 square kilometers in the 2 districts of Balaghat and Mandla. Together with the neighboring 110 square kilometers, Phen Sanctuary and a surrounding buffer zone of about 1009 square kilometers, forms the Kanha Tiger Reserve. The national park was created on June of 1955.

Fauna

Kanha National Park has a large population of tigers and a significant population of Indian wild dogs and leopards. The wild dogs population is estimated at 396; the slot bear has reached 111 as well as the leopards and almost 80 individuals for year 2000. The rare Indian wolf can be found in the eastern part of this park.

Flora

The lowland forest is a combination of shorea robusta or sal and other combined forest trees scattered with meadows. An attractive Indian ghost tree or kullu could also be seen in its denseness. The highland forests are humid, moist, dry and of a deciduous as well as different nature. This is along with bamboos on certain slopes.

Kanha Tiger Reserve flourishes in maidans or meadows essentially open grassland which sprung up in fields of villages, paving the way for the animals. There are also several species of grass at this park, noted as significant to the survival of the Barasingha. Densely forested zones with great crowns feature several species of herbs, climbers and shrubs. The aquatic plants in some lakes are deemed as a lifeline for wetland and migratory species of birds.

How to Reach Kanha National Park

You could take the roads as your first option. There are regular back and forth bus services accessible from Jabalpur to Kanha. Cars can be hired from the close towns in order to reach Kanha. Travel to Seoni on the Jabalpur National Road is a soft drive. From Seoni, take the right turn to Chiraidongri, Keloari and Nainpur in order to reach the Kisli gate of the Kanha National Park.

Another way is to take the trains. Jabalpur is 169 kilometers or 4 hours is the closest railhead from the park. Daily trains between Jabalpur and Delhi are Gondwana Express and Mahakoshal Express. This is while Mumbai is linked through the Kolkata Mail, Mahanagari Express, Gorakhpur Express and LTT RJPB Express. Other main trains plying to Jabalpur includes the Varanasi Express and the Sanghamitra Express.

Attractions in Kanha National Park

The animals are probably the most awaited to see here. The major wildlife attractions in the Kanha National Park includes the bison, tiger, black buck and deer as well as the barasingha, mouse deer, fox, jungle cat and pea fowl.

You can also top your trip to the Kanha National Park by exploring the Kanha Museum located inside this park. This museum houses all the information about various topics along with park maps, topography and pug marks of different animals, enhancing your experience when it comes to exploring the park.

There is the Raja Rani too. These trees are close to the visitor center. One could see the stumps of 2 girls that worship everyday in the forests.
